From the Hospital to my Birthday...

Well it’s been quite a week. Sorry I’ve been away for a while. On Wednesday morning at 9:00 am I went to emergency with the worst stomach illness I’ve ever had. After waiting for 2 hours in triage, I finally got into isolation around 11:00 am (they didn’t know what I had but obviously believed it might be serious enough to put me far away from everyone else) and then the only treatment I received for five hours was an I..V. The doctor mentioned that I might get some Gravol to relieve my nausea but that didn’t come until 4:00 pm. That was the only treatment I got. They sent me home with a prescription for general antibiotics and a kit to collect fecal samples. They instructed me to wait on the antibiotics until I collected enough bloody sample, not for me, but in the interests of “public health”.

Okay, just so you all know, I had been shitting blood for over twelve hours at that point. I had given them both a urine and a fecal sample before I left the hospital, but apparently I had contaminated the fecal sample with urine. I have to say this: I am a not a medical doctor, but I am scientist. Can’t these people test my urine and then by a simple logical deduction process figure out what is and what is not in my fecal sample??? Jesus! AND, why do I have to continue to suffer in pain and likely do serious damage to my intestine for the good of the public? For all anyone knew I could have had something deadly. Nobody actually knew what was wrong with me, but in the interest of public health I was supposed to hold off on the anti-biotic and collect more blood from my ass for them.

So what did I do? I took the anti-biotic. I did not collect anymore sample. And now, three days later, I am happy to say that I feel better. Good thing, too, because today it’s my birthday. That’s right, my birthday. Today I am 31.

YAY.
