The other important thing to think about when launching something new, is timing. I have read many articles about how to make a good blog, and while everybody insists that you should never sacrifice content for design, and should always consider important features in your layout such as easy navigation and negative space, nobody actually speaks about the other practical things such as timing and personal life organization.
The are some factors you can never predict - if something else big happens in the world on the day/week that your blog is launched, then you might get a slower start than you had expected. Also, depending on your current notoriety as a blogger when you launch, you will need to be sure that for a couple of months you are available to write the best content, surf around to write posts, requests links, respond to comments, get your blog into feeds and social networks and do all you can to "spread the word" about your new blog.
With that in mind, you don't want to pick the weekend of the superbowl to launch your new blog unless your content is related to sports. You also don't want to pick the only month of the year that you personally have more on your plate than usual - if for instance your kids have recitals and round-robins, and birthday parties everyday of the week or you are going to sell your house and need to do some renovations.
Considering this, I have decided to wait until the end of June to add the additional features, even though my impatience keeps battling with my sensibilities on this one. I am busy with a course I am instructing until June 11 (the date of the final exam) and I am trying to get some data to submit as an abstract to a conference by June 15. This way I will be able to provide you with something new and exciting and it will be done with all of my effort. Don't worry, I'll keep posting in the meantime, and forgive me if I am less frequent than usual, but just remember that soon something new is to come.
