Often I have had to help people I really like and respect read simple words and do simple math. Why they are in science, let alone pursuing university education is beyond me. These people would be happier doing (and likely be better at) something else.
I realize that being in a place where we are all free to do what we want I really shouldn't be judgmental. I also know that I sound like a bitch to all of those people who grew-up and really believed those after school specials that told them that they could do anything they wanted as long as they "put their minds to it" (Ughh, gag me already it's such a crock of shit!)
The truth is that we all have something we can do well, but none of us can do everything very well. There are just some things that I know I suck at - and everyone else should know that they have those things they suck at, too. What makes people successful, happy and well-functioning adults is when they do something they are good at and makes them happy. It also decreases frustration for everyone else on the planet.
For example: when America turns around and wonders what happened to their country in the last decade, it is as simple as this: when a proud "C" student that cannot express himself clearly to his own people is asked to run a country and interact with international leaders, he's going to do a below average job. Not an average "B" job or a great "A+" job, but exactly what everyone has come to expect of him. By electing a man who declares himself "sucky" the American people got a leader they deserved.
The same applies to everything else. If you are looking for a new employee, hire the best. Someone who loves what they are doing and is doing it because it is what they do best and it makes them happy. They will always do a good job, and you will never have to doubt their competence. Finally, if you struggle at what you do, consider that you have chosen an inappropriate vocation. Instead of struggling, perhaps you should find a new career that you excel at.
Please, people of earth, stop trying to be "okay" at stuff you are "bad" at and just be "the best" at what you are "good" at. We will evolve a lot faster.
